Bulldogs R.I.S.E. Up!

At Spangdahlem Middle School, we believe that every student can thrive in a safe, respectful, and supportive environment. That’s why we use PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) to clearly teach, model, and celebrate the expectations that help our school community succeed.

Our program is called Bulldogs R.I.S.E. Up! – with R.I.S.E. standing for:

• R – Responsibility
• I – Integrity
• S – Safety
• E – Excellence

These four values are the foundation of how we learn, play, and interact at school.

What Does R.I.S.E. Look Like?

We use a behavior expectation matrix to show students what Responsibility, Integrity, Safety, and Excellence look like in different areas of the school – in classrooms, hallways, the cafeteria, gym, restrooms, on the bus, and even online.

For example:

• In the classroom, students show Responsibility by coming prepared and ready to learn, and Integrity by doing their own work.
• In the cafeteria, Safety means staying seated until dismissed and keeping food at your own table.
• On the bus, Excellence is demonstrated by being a good example for others and respecting the driver.
• As digital citizens, students show Integrity by thinking before posting or sharing online, and Responsibility by using technology appropriately.

Every space in our school – including the library, office, recess, and hallways – has clear, simple expectations connected to R.I.S.E. so students always know what success looks like. 

Why R.I.S.E. Matters

When Bulldogs R.I.S.E. Up!, we create a learning community where everyone feels safe, respected, and encouraged to do their best. These expectations help students build strong character, develop positive habits, and contribute to a school culture where all can learn and grow.

Voice Levels

We also use voice levels to guide communication in different settings:

• Level 0 – No Voice (silent work/testing)
• Level 1 – Partner Voice (whispers)
• Level 2 – Normal Voice (small group)
• Level 3 – Presentation Voice (whole class can hear)
• Level 4 – Outside Voice (playgrounds/recess only)

This helps students understand what is appropriate for each situation.

Working Together

Parents and students can support Bulldogs R.I.S.E. Up! by practicing these values at home and discussing how Responsibility, Integrity, Safety, and Excellence look in everyday life. Together, we can make sure every Bulldog is prepared to learn, grow, and shine!
